The staff consultations are in full swing. Participation rates are high, showing a keen interest in the new quality and safety standards how the new model will work.

To date there have been over 100 suggestions about the model and the standards they are based on. People are very keen to understand how this will affect their future work. While this is understandable it cannot be finalised until after the consultation and final version of the standards. Remember, the procedures won't be finalised until the 22 September. If you need to check the latest on dates and time frames, check the Schedule section on the Overview page.

Coming Up

There is still another month to go in the consultation process .  The new standards will then be finalised for signing off by the 30 August. Keep checking your email and with your supervisor for opportunities to participate in the consultation.

Success Stories

The consultation about the new standards has brought out much valuable insight from staff.  There have been 21 amendments to the standards based on issues raised. This great result not only improves our change to new levels of quality and safety but highlights the sincere effort people across the organisation are putting in to make the change succeed.

Current Questions

Question: What are quality standards?

Answer: The quality standards are standards used across industry and to be selected for our organisation to help us:
  1. Commit to delivering quality products to our customers.
  2. Provide reliable systems to achieve this.
  3. Set expectations for the quality of materials from our suppliers.
  4. Identify competency levels required for tasks in our organisation.
  5. Set principles for gathering, analysing and using data to improve our performance.

People and the Project

Ann O'Guerre and the Training and Development Team are already going through the feedback with a view to scoping out staff development needs. Even though the model is not yet finalised the team is looking at each new modification to the standards and consulting people about the training, experience, skills and knowledge people will need to meet these standards. This is part of ACME Corporation's commitment to be ready to support our people through the transition.

Key Dates

The rest of July will see the continuation of the consultation.

Recent Activity

The Senior Executive Group has endorsed the model for your quality and safety processes. A few modifications from the SEG meeting have to be put into the model then it is ready for consultation with staff across the organisation.

The model aims to keep our strengths in tailored products and timely delivery. To achieve this the model will insert process steps into our design and operational activities. If there are no issues with the product then the processes should have minimal or no impact on existing processes and timelines. Where risks are identified a set of product improvement and customer management processes will be triggered. A new Quality and Safety Unit will be established to support teams implementing the process and to monitor data to check the reliabilty and safety performance of our products.

Coming Up

The final model should be finalised by the end of this week, incorporating the issues raised by the SEG. From next week a series of consultation sessions will be held across the organisation. All staff are invited to these. You will be notified by email and through your supervisor about sessions near you. Staff in design and operational units are especially encouraged to participate.

Success Stories

One key reason the model was ready in time for the SEG and successfully endorsed was the initiative of our head of R&D, Mr. Nick O'Thyme. At the last minute he was able to get approval from several companies in the U.K. to review their data and processes.

We sent Nick to the U.K. on a horror trip: 24 hours flight over, 48 hours of meetings and access to company records and a 24 hours return flight.  No changing of the guard for Nick this trip. You would expect him to be sleeping it off but on the return trip Nick conducted a thorough statistical analysis of the data, comparing it to local data and had a report ready the next morning. We owe Nick a lot. Thanks Nick.

Current Questions

Question: What is the consultation process about:?

Answer: The consultation is an opportunity for staff to add several bit to the process. Obviously we don't intend to redo the technical work from the ground up. That would defeat the purspose of pulling together the technical expertise we have to develop the model.  What we do from here is look at:
  1. What details need to be resolved to finalise the model?
  2. What improvements  are needed in other areas of the organisation if we are to get the best from the model?
  3. What do teams have to address to get ready for implementing the model?

People and the Project

Feedback from across the organisation indicates a mix of excitement and uncertainty about the project. This is to be expected at this early stage. Over the next few weeks, through the consultation process, we hope to move quickly to creating a greater amount of certainty as the details are finalised. It is important to Mr. Merryweather and the rest of SEG that people get the information they need as soon as possible. This way we can all start to see the role we will play in this new phase of ACME Corporation's continuing success.

Remember, if you have questions and can't find the answers here, check with your supervisor or your team's project representative.

Key Dates

The month of July is dedicated to consultation across the organisation. Check with your supervisor and watch your email for information about sessions near you.

Recent Activity

The project is engaged in research for designing a quality and safety model for us to adopt. The research has involved visits to other organisations, benchmarking studies and literature review. This work will continue for another week when it will be finalised in time for presenting a provisional model to the Senior Executive Group on 1 August.

Coming Up

Over the next few weeks you may be approached by a member of the project team to consult you about the different models being considered.  At this stage it is important to know that we are reviewing different options.

We are only doing a technical consultation at this stage, talking to people who can provide relevant technical input on different models. A broader consultation will be conducted once a model is selected.

Success Stories

Ann O'Guerre, our Director of Human Resources, has successfully recruited Ms. Max Seaqueretae as our new Director of Risk. Max comes from Armageddon Enterprises, a leading player in our sector. With Max comes a wealth of industry information about risk and safety which we a putting sraight into this project.

Current Questions

Question: When will we know what our new business processes are?

Answer: At this stage the project team is finalising its research into viable models. This includes looking at practices in other organisations and industry standards. The team will select a model that matches our organisation and fits with our existing strengths.  This will go to the Senior Executive Group for sign-off on July 1. After that time we will be able to start presenting the model to staff.

People and the Project

Our recently assembled project team is already hard at work.  It has been meeting to develop the project plan for sign off by the Senior Executive Group.

Progress to date has included examination of models, bench-marking standards across the sector, development of the strategy and estimation of costs. The team is also looking at the change management implications, especially what each model would require in terms of helping people adapt.

Key Dates

1 July - Sign off of project plan.
